Is CalAtlantic Group a new builder?
The answer is yes and no. New home shoppers will now start seeing CalAtlantic Homes For Sale signs around the Houston area and many will ask if they are a new builder. CalAtlantic Group Inc. is the product of Westlake Village home builder Ryland Group Inc. merging with Irvine-based home builder Standard Pacific Corp.
Ryland has been one of the more prolific builders in the Houston area for many years and is in many of Houston’s largest master planned communities. Standard Pacific has also built in the Houston area (although not recently). The newly merged CalAtlantic Group will operate in 41 markets across 17 states and will continue their strong building tradition in Houston and throughout multiple additional markets in Texas.
“A new name reflects a new chapter in the history of our two iconic homebuilding companies. The CalAtlantic Homes name points to the breadth of the new company’s footprint expanding from coast to coast and all points in between,” said Ryland Chief Executive Officer Larry Nicholson.
This merger may have some limited effect on the market. Still most likely, the transition should be smooth. Home buyers that liked these builders before will most likely continue to like the product. For now, Houston buyers and Realtors should just know that CalAtlantic is here and they should have many of the qualities that buyers loved before from the two merged companies.
